Hi all, It's autumn in the garden and I'm busy getting the cleanup done.  I pruned the raspberries by cutting down the old canes, the one that had berries this year.  Also, I made a new strawberry patch after my husband tilled a patch of garden up.  All year we have been feeding our compost containers.  We have three of them, so they will be ready for next year.  I have to get rid of some Chinese Lanterns, because they are taking over the garden.  Take my advice and don't plant them in the garden.  Give them a separate bed of their own.  The Chinese Lanterns crowded out my mint and Lemon Balm, if you can believe that.  That was a tragedy, because I make an excellent mint tea out of spearmint.  Now, there is hardly any mint left at all.  I had to replant some mint in a separate garden.  The Chinese Lanterns are diabolical, because their runners grow underground and pop up in another location.  On the positive side, my husband made a nice potting soil for me out of grass clippings, earth, and some compo-stable stuff.  That will save money next year when I plant in containers. The photos below are of the scarecrows in my garden.  I threw in a picture of our cat Caddy and a big pumpkin for good measure.
